Features of interest to Web-Owners

Webmaster Optional
In the old days if a Web-Owner wanted to have a website they had to walk ten miles through the snow and hire a webmaster OR go to night school and learn to HTML code for themselves. With Wnki not only can Web-Owners save themselves a long walk through the snow. They can also do a great deal of website decoration themselves. All that's required is the ability to point, click and type.

Direct Access
Under normal circumstances if a web-owner wanted changes made to a webpage it was necessary to go through several different programs each requiring their own unique and wonderful learning curve all of which requires time, time and more time. Wnki allows instant access with almost no prerequisite training. You can make changes to a webpage without FTP or any other ancillary program. And the best news is that all of that is still available if you choose to use it.

Full Access
Some "helper" program stuff your website into some kind of proprietary format and/or onto a speciality server which restricts your full access to your pages. Imagine our surprise when we went to move a friend's website from their previous server to a new server. Turns out their website was stuffed onto somekind of FrontPage server which was unaccessible to telnet, unaccessible to ftp, unaccessible to anything other than FrontPage. Don't know if this is true with all FrontPage websites. But it was a very sobering realization in this one case. Wnki works with your webpages as they are. The only additions are a couple of marker tags to indicate accesible content. Working with Wnki still leaves you free to edit with DreamWeaver, Hotdog, CoffeeCup, Notepage and any one of the zillions of HTML editing programs. You can still access your site through FTP, telnet and any other normal protocal. Wnki leaves your data in the clear. This means you can switch to any other system at any time without costly conversion.

Nothing written in stone
Normally when putting up a website it's necessary to make many final decisions at the get go. Decide a color scheme, decide a look and feel, decide a menu form, etc. etc. All of these things to be decided and written in stone. Sure you can change any of these later. But that means paying your webmaster to editing every page which means more money. Wnki has several functions designed to remove the "written in stone" jitters. Decide to change color no problem. Wnki lets you change the color scheme on the whole site or a single folder. Come back from a sales meeting with new information on "selling" colors. Just change the colors. It's that easy.

Dynamic Pages on a Static Budget
To make the kind of dynamic changes which Wnki allows one would typically be required to use what's called a dynamic website. A dynamic website is one which is created on the fly from a database. This allows for immediate customization of many features. Unfortunately this solution is best suited for those web-owners prepared to pay the five, six, and seven figure bills required. Wnki uses "static" pages. "Static" is not a slander on the interest level of the content. Rather "static" means that the webpages sit around on the server just as they are waiting for a viewer request. We find Static pages by far the easiest for newbie webmasters, web-decorators, and web-owners to understand. Dynamic pages have some very specific uses for which they are the best solution. But if you're reading this instead of paying some hot-shot web-guru six figures a year to do it for you, then you should use static pages -- at least for the first few iterations of your website. And if that's your plan Wnki is there to help. Wnki can adjust look and feel like the expensive dynamic sites.
