How do I backup my website?
|
It's not a bad idea to backup your website periodically. This is especially true if your ISP breaks connect often or if you are about to try somthing from the "Advanced Functions" menu.
|
Backup is designed to make a safty copy of your website. Problem is nothing is totally safe. And it is possible if you put your mind to it to ruin your website while trying to save it. It's not easy to do. But it is possible. You have been warned. If you don't feel comfortable you will proably have just enough caution to guarantee a successful backup.
- Step 1)
- Using the Main option at the top of the WnKi menu go to your admin/index.html directory
- Step 2)
- Look near the bottom of the page for a link called "Advanced Functions". Click on that link.
- Step 3)
- On wnkiextra.pl page you will see at the top left a menu option called "Backup". It is just above the word "Global".
- Click on the "Backup" link.
- This will take you to the Global Backup Center.
- Step 4)
- From the Global Backup Center.
- Select "Backup Website" as the "Select Action" option. This is where you can mess up big time. If you select Restore Website instead of Backup you will restore from a previous backup substituting the old pages in place of the new pages. So this is really the only place that you can mess up.
- Enter your admin password in the "Password" edit box.
- Click on the "Do it now please ...." button.
- This will take you to the Confirm Website Backup page.
- Step 5)
- From the Confirm Website Backup page.
- First LOOK.
- Make sure it says "Confirm Website Backup" not "Confirm Website Restore".
- If it says "Confirm Website Backup" you are home free. All should go perfectly from now on.
- Click on "Confirm Backup".
- Enter your admin password in the "Password" edit box.
- Click on the "Click to process selection" button.
- This will backup your website into the admin directory folder.
- Step 6)
- To grab a copy of your website backup so that you have a copy on your computer all you need do is enter into your browser location bar "http://www.yourdomain.com/admin/backup.tar.gz"
- This will start the download of the backup file onto your computer.
The backup.tar.gz file is a special Linux/Unix type file. WinZip can handle this file just fine.
