How do I modify the bottom stuff?

There comes the day when you want to change the look of page content which falls outside the normal "Page Edit" and even the not so normal "Advanced Edit". To do this requires change of the base template itself. This can be tricky but definitely within the realm of do-able. Go forth, be brave and give it a try. Just backup your website first. ;-)

As suggested, it would be a great idea to backup your website before making changes to your template. That is a major change and who knows what can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong
  • Step 1)
Save your template.html page. Do this by browing to the page http://www.yourdomain.com/template.html and using the browser's File:SaveAs feature.

  • Step 2)
Edit the copy of the template.html page on your computer. You can use Dreamweaver, Notepad, Word, Hotdog, Coffee Cup, Amipro, or any of the other editors out there. You will notice some of the aforementioned editors are html specific editors and some are just plain ol' editors. Even though html can be a spookie and sometimes scary thing to look at in the raw, you should be at least a little familiar having been using WnKi. If it were possible to stay 100% ignorant of HTML I'd say don't learn it. But since EBay, Amazon, and other such services require that one have a passing familiarity with HTML it's something you should learn. If you are new to HTML try the Newbie HTML Tutorials. If this sounds too complicated or scary then get your WnKi webmaster to help make the changes to your template.html

  • Step 3)
Now that you think you have completed edits of your template.html page it is time to test it.
To test your edits open the template.html page in your browser. You can do this by finding the template.html page in your Windows Explorer and double clicking on it. You can drag the directory entry onto your browser and drop it. Or, you can use the File:OpenPage option of your browser. However you manage to do it make sure you do it. Look at the page before you upload it. If the page doesn't work locally it will not work any better after upload. (The only exception to this rule is if you have SSI in your page. If you are using SSI then you shouldn't need this tutorial.)

  • Step 4)
Now that you have completed edits AND tested your template.html page it is time to upload the new template.
Using the Main option at the top of the WnKi menu go to your admin/index.html directory

  • Step 5)
Look near the bottom of the page for a link called "Advanced Functions". Click on that link.

  • Step 6)
On wnkiextra.pl page you will see at the top of the page in the middle just above the "KI" of WnKi loga the "ReTemplate" menu option. Click on this menu hot link.
This will take you to the Re-Upload Template File page.

  • Step 7)
From the Re-Upload Template File page use the browse button to hunt for the modified "template.html" file on your computer. When you find and select the new template.html file click the "Upload Template" button on the right side to start the process.

  • Step 8)
That's it. Your new template should have been uploaded and translated throughout your website.
